Higher multiples
Separating triplets and higher multiples may be more difficult
as many schools do not have enough classes per year group.
Should placement be based on ability, with the most similar
ones being placed in the same class-so one teacher has the
two most able and the other two least able, sometimes with
one or more needing significant
intervention? Or should one of the more able and one of
the less able multiples be placed in the same class, to even
the load on the teacher? There are families who have spoken
about worked best for them in such a situation. However, what
worked for them may not work for another family. There are
no easy solutions (and no research to draw upon).
What we can do here is indicate some key areas for consideration.
The checklist
for twins may be adapted for higher multiples by adding further
columns. However, the complexities of higher multiples needs
to be remembered e.g. with quads there may be four non-identical
children, two sets of identical twins, one set of identical
twins and one set of non-identical twins etc.
